Food Fun By the Slice

Today is National Roast Leg of Lamb Day? Really?

I have to admit – I’m not feeling the whole “roast” thing today. I mean, it’s practically summer and that makes me think salads, maybe throwing a few things on the grill and chunks of frozen fruit into the blender. It doesn’t make think of roast leg of lamb, sideboards groaning under the weight of endless dishes and course. Then again, I live in a Manhattan apartment. I have no business thinking of sideboards at all much less groaning under the weight of some fantastical Victorian dinner.

So let’s scoot past this oddly timed culinary celebration and share some very exciting Food Tourism News!

pizza.jpg If you are a pizza lover, New York offers not one but two – yes, two pizza tours of the city.

Scott’s Pizza Tour (“Each Sunday, Scott’s Pizza Tour will sample the slices at a half-dozen of the city’s famed pie palaces like John’s in Greenwich Village and Totonno’s in Coney Island.”) and Tony Muia’s Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tour (“Manhattan? Fuhgettaboudit!“).

I had an item on Scott’s the other day at Greater Gotham (where the foodie side of New York often takes center stage) but it wasn’t until today that I saw New York Magazine mention that in all the hoopla over Scott’s, the earlier Brooklyn Slice tour seemed to have been forgotten. Well, forget no more.

There is always room for more pizza and more pizza tours. Of course, New York is home to many food tours — including the monthly tours of Murray’s Cheese Caves and Foods of New York Tours. If you haven’t started thinking about your summer vacation plans (I start right around Christmas so I don’t know what you all are waiting for) – maybe a culinary road trip is in your future?
