April 2 is – according to Google – Hans Christian Andersen’s 205th Birthday. That’s nice. It’s also National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. I’m sure that’s nice too but as I have made clear – peanut butter is not my thing.
Now if I were in charge, I would have made National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day the day after National Peanut Butter Day – which my co-blogger expounded upon with great enthusiasm, being a peanut butter devotee. But alas – no asked me and the days remain separated by a number of months.
One thing I noticed in the previous discussion of peanut butter was that people get worked up over peanut butter and hold strong views about smooth or chunky, organic or not, this or that, etc. There are certainly enough peanut butter holidays. There is National Peanut Butter Fudge Day (Nov 20), National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day (March 1), National Peanut Butter Cookie Day (June 12) – and November is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month.
But if one is considering it in light of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, what about the jelly? Are views on jelly as heated?
Since I don’t eat peanut butter and jelly, I’m not sure what the criteria are for choosing the jelly you want in your sandwich. I have the vague impression that it is usually grape jelly. But perhaps there are a wider variety of popularly accepted choices.
What do you all use?
