I have just entered the Washington Post Pie-Ku contest. Don’t ask me why. I am not a haiku- or even poem – person. And while I love pizza as much as the next person, I am not SUCH a pizza aficianado that I normally write poems about. It just seemed like the thing to do and so I did. What has happened though is that now I am thinking of other foodie haikus. Here are a few I’ve come up with (not including my pizza haiku which I am far too competitive to include here):
Coffee Haiku
daily cup of joe
eyes wide and alert for now
extra shot next time
Waffle Haiku
your squares are so square
each filled with maple goodness
add butter and eat. ahhhh
Caeser Salad
Leafy, crunchy, tart
anchovies are optional
croutons are must haves
Ice Cream
Scooped into dishes
cold and creamy summer fun
eat quick or it melts
What about you? Are you feeling the foodie muse? Remember the structure. 5 syllables / 7 syllables / 5 syllables and no rhyming

walnut oil bliss.
